Swedish designer Sara Sjögren creates a playful and lively atmosphere in her interiors by using splashes of colour on a primarily white background. She uses a variety of different shapes which when interspersed with colour make the interiors quite exciting to be in. Her Swedish background is apparent in the unusual ways in how she deals with the furniture. In what could be a boring space is soon livened up by her unique visions. From a distance it appears as if there is no rhyme or reason to her methods. Clearly her way of seeing interiors show this to be otherwise. By taking her lead in your interiors you will find that your previously monotonous spaces will become alive and be a joy to live in. |
Splashes of colour in white interiors
Schools with a splash of color: Interior Design Ideas
The driving force in the design of schools is the well being of the student’s. With this in mind the Australia based architects smith+tracey have come up with solutions that both engage the students and deviate from what they would normally expect for a school environment. These spaces are adaptive and interesting. The use of colour breaks up the spaces into various zones for group work, classes and single study areas. The colour isn’t just used on the walls though. It’s usage includes the floors furniture and even the ceilings, stepping away from the typical drab colours which you will often find in schools. The colours are not overwhelming either, being balanced with a neutral base of white and grey. It’s good to see designers stepping outside the box and not being afraid to try something new. As most parents will appreciate children become more engaged the more engaging the environment making this school environment ideal for children and adults alike. |

Interior Design in Singapore
Singapore is a small country that is home to roughly 5 million people and growing. It is one of the densest countries in the world with more than 7 thousand people to each square kilometre. In order to accommodate such a large population relative to its size, its government introduced a massive public housing project in the 1960s that is still in place today. Most of these public housing consist of high-rise apartment buildings that are sold to the citizens on long-term loans. These loans can run up to decades and are meant to give the public a cheap and reliable means of owning their own homes.
With the space restriction, land area is priced at a premium. Most people in Singapore live in apartment blocks and only the richer ones can afford to live in bungalows and terrace houses. With this in mind, the home interior design industry in Singapore is mostly based around making the best use of available spaces in small apartment homes. Because of this, the interior design industry is skewed towards these apartments.
Singapore Housing Styles
Singapore homes consist of mostly public housing, which are high-rise apartments. These have various similar layouts. The interior designs for these apartments are very limited because of the similar layouts and the small space.
There are also private apartments that are condominiums that have different kinds of facilities. These private apartments have vastly different layouts and give rise to more creative interior designs.
The next kind is landed properties. These houses are valued much higher as they take up much more land space, which is expensive in Singapore. These can be terrace houses, semi-detached houses or bungalows. They usually come with patios, porches or garages. The interior designs for these houses can be very different.

Property Demand in Singapore
To boost the economy and to remain competitive, Singapore relaxed its immigration requirements to bring in foreign workers. This helps the country remain competitive in the global economy. After the global financial crisis of recent times, the Singapore economy is thriving. This has increased the need for new accommodation.
Many new homes are built and upgraded to cope with this demand. Many houses are bought and sold each day in Singapore and with each transaction comes a demand to change the interiors of the home. This brings about a greater demand in the interior design industry. The increase in demand for interior design services come from new home owners and people who are upgrading their homes.
